Following the path of the BMW X3, its brother SUV coupe has also received a major renovation with a remarkably updated and more aggressive face. The current BMW X4 is approaching the halfway point of its life and as usual, BMW has prepared a convenient renovation that has also been accompanied by the new BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé, and the BMW X3 and X3 M that we have already shown you. Now it is the turn of its coupe brother, a BMW X4 that receives the same recipe as the X3, in the form of an interesting update at the level of exterior design, but also with important changes in its interior equipment and even in the restructuring of its spectrum.
A more aggressive design
In fact, as he anticipated in his first appearances, we are facing a much more important facelift than it seems.
In fact, although its face is very similar to that of the new BMW X3, in the X4 we find a double kidney grille with a mesh design exclusive to this model, although it follows the style of BMW sports models, what is clear is that at least in this family of SUVs we will not finally find the controversial vertical format of the recent M3 and M4. For its part, its new Matrix LED headlights, also with a new design, are now available as standard, while the BMW Laser Light optics are optional.
All these changes result in a more aggressive front than the current one, for which headlights and bumpers have been redesigned that incorporate larger air intakes, in addition, the rear has also received its corresponding ration of changes with a refurbished bumper including its rear diffuser, as well as the interior design of the pilots.
The main range of the BMW X4 will also feature an M sports package that includes distinctive elements such as glossy black painted inserts, a new front apron, side air curtains, as well as 19-inch wheels that can be 20 and 21 inches optionally. In addition to this, the X4 arrives with new body colors within an 11-tone palette, highlighting the new Skyscraper Gray, M Brooklyn Gray, Aventurine Red, Tanzanite Blue, and the exclusive Piedmont Red.
Inside, the main novelty comes in the form of a new central console directly inherited from the new BMW 4 Series and that includes just above a new floating 10.25-inch touch screen (or 12.3-inch optionally) with the BMW Live Cockpit Plus, accompanied by the latest version of the iDrive operating system. Also, the lower console has been redesigned, while the instrumentation is presented with a 5.1-inch screen in the center or optionally a fully digital with a 12.3-inch panel. At the level of comfort, its sports seats stand out with the new Sensatec upholstery, a tri-zone climate control, as well as new finishes and lighting. BMW further notes that the number of options has been reduced by up to 30% to simplify the configuration of each vehicle for its customers.
Protagonism for electrification
As for his mechanics offer, we find the same formula as his brother the X3, which means having a wide variety of options to choose from motor gasoline and diesel of four and six-cylinder more efficient, to being now accompanied by a 48-volt mild-hybrid technology. This group includes the 184 hp xDrive20i , the 245 hp xDrive30i and the 360 hp M40i , as well as the 190 hp xDrive20d , 286 hp xDrive30d and 340 hp M40d diesels . To all of them is added the already known xDrive30e plug-in hybrid and of course the also recently released X4 M Competition with 510 hp and 650 Nm.
The new BMW X4 will arrive in dealerships accompanied by the BMW X3 from August 2021.
