25th anniversary: Bethesda announces series of celebrations

The "Fallout" series of games will celebrate its 25th anniversary this month, and developer Bethesda has announced that it will hold several celebrations in October, and also released a poster.

First, Bethesda is launching a one-week free trial for Fallout 76, which begins this week and ends on October 10.

Second, Bethesda will offer " big discounts on the entire Fallout franchise, " with the anniversary sale running until October 12 on Xbox and PlayStation consoles and until October 18 on Steam.

Finally, Bethesda will release an update to Fallout Shelter next week, adding new content to the free-to-play game for the first time in more than four years.

The "Fallout" series debuted in 1997, and 2015's "Fallout 4" was one of its best-selling titles, selling 12 million copies worldwide on its release day alone.

The latest entry in the series is 2018's online multiplayer title Fallout 76. Its latest update, released in September, introduced repeatable story-based missions for groups of up to four players to play in Pittsburgh.

As for the next installment in the Fallout series, Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard recently reiterated that Fallout 5 is in development after Starry Sky and The Elder Scrolls 6, so it's a couple of years away.
