A simple trick allows you to read deleted WhatsApp messages, while some users may find this disturbing if you want to take a look at any embarrassing messages you deleted quickly.

What is the deleted message?

Messages can be removed from individual and group chats, and the feature is available across Android and iOS phones. It comes with a warning that recipients have been told via a note that says "This message has been deleted".

However, the message is stored on your phone and can be detected using WhatsApp's backup feature. The tool backs up all your messages at 2 AM every morning, although this frequency can be extended to only weekly or monthly.

How do I read deleted messages?

To read a deleted message, uninstall WhatsApp and then install it again from your device's App Store. Once you sign in again, you will be given an option to restore chats from backup. Simply select the restore option and your chats, including deleted messages, will be restored, appearing as if they were never removed. Even without using backup, a number of third-party applications provide the opportunity to detect deleted WhatsApp messages.

Apps like Notification History Log and Notification Log show you all the notifications stored in your gadget's notification history including those of WhatsApp chats. But apps have their limitations: you must have interacted with the notification to read it, which means swiping it from the notification bar. Also, restarting your phone can reset your notification history, eliminating any chance of spying on deleted messages.

Always be wary of giving WhatsApp notifications to third-party companies, as they have significant security risks.
