An American senator criticizes space travel without paying enough taxes

US Senator Elizabeth Warren tweeted about Jeff Bezos's recent space flight, saying that if he could go to space, he could pay more taxes.

Warren wrote on Twitter: The richest man on Earth can travel to space while more than half of the country’s population lives on a salary, nearly 43 million people are burdened with student debt, and childcare costs are forcing millions out of work. He can afford to participate so everyone has a chance.

This comes as ProPublica reported in June that Jeff Bezos, founder and former CEO of Amazon, paid zero dollars in federal income taxes for at least two years between 2006 and 2018, with the report also revealing that Tesla CEO Elon Musk did the same. in 2018.

Insider's Linley Browning reported in 2019 that Amazon also paid $0 in income taxes in 2017 and 2018.

Bezos is currently ranked by Forbes as the richest person in the world, with a net worth of $209.2 billion.

This comes after billionaire Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin successfully completed its first civilian flight into space on Tuesday, carrying Bezos and three others in space for 3 minutes of weightlessness.

As she wrote during the trip last week, on Twitter: "Jeff Bezos forgot to thank all the hardworking Americans who already paid taxes to keep this country going while he and Amazon paid nothing."
