Anonymous hackers exploited a newly discovered software flaw

Software company Solarwinds said that unknown hackers exploited a previously unknown flaw in two of its software to go after a limited and targeted group of customers. The recent statement did not identify the hackers involved.

On a Q&A page attached to the statement, SolarWinds said the flaw was completely unrelated to last year's hacking of government networks by alleged Russian spies, a sprawling espionage operation that used a Texas-based software company as a springboard to break into the targeted networks.

The page added that SolarWinds is not aware of the identity of potentially affected customers who were caught in the latest hacking campaign, while SolarWinds credited Microsoft researchers with finding the bug, and SolarWinds did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on the ad.
