Apple iPhone 14 car crash detection: A passenger's iPhone automatically alerted rescuers

US police said that a serious car accident occurred in Nebraska in the early morning of Sunday local time. A car crashed into a tree, killing all six young passengers in the car. After the accident, a passenger's iPhone automatically alerted rescuers .

According to police, the crash happened in Lincoln, Nebraska, at about 2:15 a.m. Sunday, about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) east of the state capitol. The accident vehicle was a Honda Accord, and the five men on it died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle was a 22-year-old man, and the other four men were between the ages of 21 and 23. A 24-year-old woman was seriously injured and died after being taken to the hospital.

Police said the cause of the accident is still under investigation. According to them, an iPhone detected the impact and automatically called rescue personnel after the phone's owner didn't respond. Currently, only the latest iPhone 14 series phones support car crash detection. When it detects a serious crash, the phone prompts an emergency call. If the phone owner does not respond, it will automatically call.

"This is the worst car crash in recent memory in Lincoln," said Lincoln Police Department Assistant Chief Michon Morrow. "We've been trying to recall another crash of this magnitude, and we can't think of anything." As of Sunday afternoon, investigators had not been able to find any witnesses to the crash, which could make it more difficult to determine the cause of the crash. Police are currently investigating all possibilities, including drunk driving, speeding or distracted driving. "
