After a long time waiting, it seems that we are very close to knowing all the details of the next generation of Audi sports compacts, and we are not referring to the S3 that we all already know, but to the wildest versions: the RS 3. As a complement to a press release on the success of the ever-growing RS line, the German firm has published the first images showing the smallest members of the family, namely the Audi RS 3 Sportback and RS 3 Sedan that our spies have hunted these months ago in the full testing phase.
Still in camouflage
The Sportback and the Sedan are completely camouflaged, although this very unique Audi Sport suit does not really hide any secrets. Those wondering about the "1-2-4-5-3" drawn on the sides of both cars should know that it refers to the firing order of the 2.5-liter five-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine hidden under the hood. We speak of the same TFSI block with that unmistakable sound that also powers the RS Q3 and TT RS models, instead of the 2.0-liter block of its S3 brothers.
With their generous air intakes at the front and the two characteristic oval tailpipes at the rear, we can openly say that these two versions are one step ahead of the aforementioned S3. They also appear to be closer to the asphalt and have oversized tires, and in the case of the sedan, there is a subtle spoiler on the boot lid. The cars seem to be about to lose their colors and hopefully, we won't have to wait until September at the IAA Munich to see them in full.
With more power?
As for the aforementioned five-cylinder turbocharged engine, it generates 400 horsepower and 480 Nm of maximum torque in the other compact-size RS models mentioned above, but everything indicates that the RS 3 it will be optimized to offer greater performance. We do not know how important this improvement will be, although our spies told us that both models will develop about 420 hp and 500 Nm, always associated with the well-known Quattro traction of the German brand.
We will have to be attentive to the next few days because we will most likely know all the details of this pair of sports compacts this same month of June.
