BMW already sells Cybex child seats in their cars: Essential equipment?

Cybex and BMW strengthen ties with a commercial agreement that should give a lot to think about: should child restraint systems be basic safety equipment in family cars? They are clear about it.

Are our little ones well protected in the car in the event of a traffic accident? Only a few months ago we addressed this debate in our Special Child Road Safety, a round table that included, among other experts, those of the firms BMW and Cybex. Well, just a few days ago we met them again because both brands have signed an agreement whereby you can now buy a child seat from the Cybex brand at any BMW dealer or what is the same, you can take home a vehicle of the Bavarian brand with one of the best child restraint systems incorporated as standard.

The safety of the little ones comes first and both brands are recognized in a series of shared values ​​such as the commitment to technology, innovation, and quality. "BMW is the Cybex of cars and this collaboration wants to place CRS at the same level as any other safety element in the car -such as an ABS or an airbag- as well as to prevent situations of misinformation or over-information and/or other common practices, but not recommended by manufacturers, such as the acquisition of second-hand chairs, "said Nuria Cabezas, Cybex Marketing Director during the presentation of the agreement, an event held at the BMW Madrid facilities and attended by Car and Driver ES.

For his part, Borja Hormigos, BMW Iberica press officer stressed that "those who buy a BMW for their trips do so, among other things, due to quality and safety standards, and require child restraint devices according to the vehicle they are acquiring. Now, in our dealerships, they can obtain advice on these and see how they are installed in a simple and safe way in the vehicle, as well as buy them on-site. "

BMW and Cybex thus reinforce their commitment to child road safety. Remember that the use of a suitable child seat reduces the chances of injury by up to 90% and the mortality rate in the event of an accident by 75%. In 2019, a total of 104,080 accidents were recorded, an average of 285 per day.

Based on this new agreement between the two German companies, the distribution and commercialization of the Cybex CRS can be carried out in all authorized BMW and Mini dealerships and workshops in Spain. The objective of both: to ensure that these child restraint devices are not considered an extra, but a basic safety element in cars.
