The automobile market has us accustomed to maintaining a series of update and renewal cycles for all cars, which are normally around four years and are called LCI - Life Cycle Impulse. However, there are segments in full boiling, which are forcing brands like BMW to move more quickly. Thus, we have not been surprised at all that the electric SUV that the Bavarian house launched in Spain this year, the iX3, has just received an update!
The BMW iX3 for sale is basically an X3 with a handful of differentiating details: a faired front grille, electric blue underbody and rear air diffuser accents, and aerodynamically designed 19-inch wheels. option, they can be 20 in option. Along the same lines, its 100% electric mechanics are equally simple: a single motor with 286 horsepower and 400 Nm, travels in the rear position and is responsible for moving the wheels on this axle by means of direct transmission. However, this does not allow the iX3 to have a front trunk or anything like that and its modular battery pack arranged on the floor shoots its weight on the scale to 2,260 kilos.
A more differential iX3
Now, the model we see in images is much more complete in all aspects, ready to stand up to the Mercedes EQC or Audi e-Tron, all of them with all-wheel drive and twin-engine mechanics. The most obvious change is at the front, where BMW designers have decided to inflate the kidney grilles a bit, but thankfully, without overdoing it, as seen on some of the brand's other recent products. In addition, the light clusters are now approximately 10 millimeters thinner and come with LED technology as standard, while as an option you can opt for the Laserlight system.
Another of the most important novelties of this update is found in an M sports package that is now equipped as standard so that the iX3 can mount very attractive 20-inch aerodynamic wheels. To round off the changes to the exterior, BMW has introduced a new bill of the light signature on taillights that are identical to those of the renewed X3. Compared to an X3 30i, the center of gravity is 74mm lower while the weight is distributed 43:57 front/rear.
Entering the cabin, the updated iX3 features a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and an updated infotainment system with a full-size touchscreen. BMW has made changes to the center console by adjusting the gear selector lever and some of the main controls, as well as adding a new option of perforated upholstery for the sports seats.
No change in mechanics
As before, the electric SUV is equipped with an 80 kWh capacity battery that can offer up to 100 kilometers of range of use after 10 minutes of connection to the electrical network as it supports loads of up to 150 kW. When the user decides to fully recharge the battery, they will have a range of 460 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle. As for the propellant, there was speculation about the possibility of incorporating an all-wheel-drive version, or even one that was signed by the brand's M division, but none of the options has ended up materializing.
If all goes according to plan, the BMW iX3 2022 will be on our market next autumn and its production, like the current model, will be carried out entirely in the plant that the German brand has in Shenyang (China). This Asian market will continue to be the main one for this vehicle, but in ours, its price will remain practically unchanged, that is, it will be available for just over 72,000 euros. Its debut will take place at the IAA Mobility in Munich, which will be held during the month of September.
