Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing has everything an old school supersedan needs

Just a few days after the introduction of the BMW M5 in the sharpest CS variant , the American Cadillac comes up with its own opinion on what a supersedan should look like. That view is called the CT5-V Blackwing, and the parameters it boasts are truly respectable.

Let's start with the most important thing - the engine. Under the hood is, of course, an eight-cylinder; it is a 6.2-liter engine supercharged by the compressor from the last CTS-V, but after a number of modifications to the engine itself and also the intake and exhaust. The result is 677 horsepower and 893 newton meters of torque.

However, the Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Redeye, with its 808 horsepower and 959 Nm, is still the king of power among big sedans, but the CT5-V Blackwing offers something that neither the charger nor the Germans have - a manual transmission. It has six speeds, a two-disc clutch, automatic intermediate gases during downshifting and the ability to disengage without releasing the accelerator pedal.

Of course, there is also an automatic machine, specifically a ten-stage cabinet modified for better cooperation with a high-performance engine on the road and on the circuit. It also has several driving modes. With it, the CT5-V Blackwing reaches the "American hundred" of 60 mph (97 km / h) in 3.7 seconds. Top speed is not tied to the limiter and according to the carmaker is higher than 200 mph (322 km / h).

The Cadillac remained with this model in terms of propulsion - it is exclusively a rear wheel. An electronically controlled self-locking differential works on the rear axle, again with several modes and torque vectoring. The differential has been lightened compared to the CTS-V and has better cooling.

The MacPherson strut's front suspension has been modified for faster steering response for faster steering response, while the rear five-link independent suspension is more durable, with a stiffer tuning and stronger silentblocks. Adaptive dampers are a matter of course, again with the possibility of adjustment.

Also of interest are the largest brakes that have ever worked on any Cadillac - the front wheels have a diameter of 398 mm and six-piston calipers. 374mm discs and four-pistons work at the rear. Carbon-ceramic brakes are also available on request, saving a total of 24 kg of unsprung weight.

In the cabin, it is worth mentioning perhaps only the steering wheel with a red marking of the center and a carbon insert of one of the arms. On it we find buttons for switching between different driving modes of the car and traction control.

That the seats offer heating, ventilation and a massage function, that there is a head-up display and digital instrument panel, a premium audio system from AKG and advanced connectivity of the smartphone, is now a matter of course. As well as an army of airbags and driving assistants.

On request, it is possible to have a system called Performance Data Recorder, which uses cameras on board to record your ride around the circuit and add telemetry data to it. You can also have lighter carbon seats or a suede ceiling.

Official import to the Czech Republic is a question, but the individual should not be a serious problem, many companies deal with it. In the USA, the basic price is $ 84,990, ie 1.83 million crowns. For imports to the Czech Republic, it is necessary to add at least transport, customs duties and VAT, so we are at least 2.46 million crowns.

Cadillac along with the CT5-V Blackwing also introduced a smaller sibling, the CT4-V Blackwing . It has a 3.6-liter six-cylinder with two turbochargers under the hood, which gives 479 horsepower and 603 Nm, which is a hair longer than the competing BMW M3.

The CT4-V Blackwing also offers a six-speed or ten-speed manual transmission, an electronically controlled self-locking differential and a significantly improved chassis compared to the civilian version with adaptive Magnetic Ride Control dampers. The rigidity of the body itself has also been improved in both cars.

Unlike the eight-cylinder sibling, there is no option to pay extra for carbon-ceramic brakes, but you can order a carbon aerodynamic package, which reduces the aerodynamic lift of the body by 214% at higher speeds. Mathematically, this would mean that it was generating pressure, but such words from Cadillac did not sound.

CT4-V Blackwing is sold in the USA for a price starting at $ 59,990 (1.29 million crowns), which means at least 1.74 million crowns for Czech roads.
