CDPR will shut down the Witcher: Monster Slayer AR mobile game next year

The Witcher: Monster Slayer is an augmented reality mobile game developed by Spokko Game Studio under CDPR. The game will be available on Apple's iOS and Android platforms for free on July 21.

However, less than a year later, CDPR officially announced that it will close The Witcher: Monster Slayer next year. The company previously said in October that it would focus on its core business of PC and console development, with mobile projects working with outside studios.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be removed from Google Play and Apple App Store on January 31, 2023, and all players will be banned from playing on June 30, 2023. The game's development team, Spokko Mobile Games Studios, is expected to be folded into a larger team to work on other projects.

In addition, CDPR will also end its support for The Witcher: Gwent Card. Only a few staff members will be retained to maintain game operations, and the rest of the developers will be transferred to other projects. It seems that they want to streamline their internal business and focus on their main content development up.

CDPR is currently busy with multiple projects, including the next-generation Witcher series trilogy, the first plot expansion of Cyberpunk 2077, the remake of the first generation of Witcher...etc., and even Cyberpunk: The sequel to 2077 is next. Freeing up manpower to meet the development of large-scale projects may avoid the next Cyberpunk 2077 release nightmare.
