China Internet Information Center (CNNIC) has published the 48th Statistical Report on the State of China's Internet Development. The report says that as of June 2021, the total number of fixed broadband Internet users of the three major telecommunications companies reached 510 million.
Among them, the number of users with access speeds of 100 Mbps and above reached 466 million, which is 91.5% of the total number of customers. This is 1.6% more than in December 2020;
Gigabit broadband continues to grow rapidly. In December last year, there were only 6.4 million users with access speeds of 1000 Mbps and above. In June this year, their number increased to 14.23 million, an increase of 122.3%.
As of June 2021, the number of fiber-optic users reached 480 million, accounting for 94.1% of the total number of fixed broadband Internet users.
In total, China has 1.011 billion Internet users, 21.75 million more than in December 2020, and the Internet penetration rate reached 71.6%. The study's authors argue that one billion users form the largest and most dynamic digital society in the world.
The number of rural Internet users in China is 297 million, accounting for 29.4% of the total number of Internet users. The number of urban Internet users is 714 million, or 70.6%.
