Crunchyroll is preparing to create a unified anime subscription system

Sony has completed the acquisition of Crunchyroll streaming service. We first learned about the deal back in October last year. The deal cost Sony $ 1.175 billion.

Anime-focused Crunchyroll has approximately 5 million paying subscribers and approximately 120 million registered users. That being said, Sony already has a similar asset in the form of the Funimation service, and the Crunchyroll user base will make Sony a very strong player in this field.

Moreover, it looks like the company is preparing to offer users some kind of new subscription. Presumably, Sony will soon introduce a more expensive version of the PS Plus subscription, which, among other things, will have access to anime services and not only.

With the addition of Crunchyroll, we have an unprecedented opportunity to serve anime fans like never before and deliver the anime experience on whatever platform they choose. Our goal is to create a unified anime subscription system as soon as possible
