Desktop environment KDE Plasma 5.27.2 released

KDE Plasma is a desktop environment that provides a comprehensive and customizable user interface for Linux-based operating systems. Recently, the KDE project team released the latest version of KDE Plasma, 5.27.2. This update focuses on optimizing Plasma Wayland, fixing various bugs reported by users, and improving the overall user experience. In this article, we will explore the new features and improvements of KDE Plasma 5.27.2.

Optimizing Plasma Wayland

One of the main focuses of the KDE Plasma 5.27.2 update is to optimize Plasma Wayland. Wayland is a modern display server protocol used by Linux-based operating systems. Plasma Wayland provides a more efficient and stable desktop environment on Wayland. The update fixes the problem of line artifacts around the panel when zooming with fractional scale. It also supports correct rendering of the mouse cursor in XWayland and fixes the problem of the mouse cursor briefly moving one pixel at the bottom of the screen and the right screen edge. These issues can cause UI elements that enable hover to flicker at the edge of the screen. The update also fixes display problems when rendering the Aurorae window decoration theme.

Improvements in Multi-Monitor Support

KDE Plasma 5.27.2 also improves support for multiple monitors. Users can now arrange their screens in a more flexible and intuitive way. The update fixes problems such as multi-screen arrangement composed of screens of suppliers. It also fixes a crash in the powerdevil daemon that breaks power management. The system settings crash when applying or restoring screen arrangement changes has also been fixed.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

Apart from the above-mentioned updates, KDE Plasma 5.27.2 also contains more than 70 other changes. The update fixes a KWin crash that occurred when playing a video with the VLC media player application and logging out of the account. Plasma Wayland sessions now scale desktop size calculations correctly, fixing various "pixel shifts" here and there. The update also fixes the problem of UI elements flickering at the edge of the screen when using hover-enabled elements.
