Electric mobility is now reaching commercial vehicles, as has been demonstrated in recent years. The many versions already existing in companies like as Mercedes, Renault, Citroen, and Peugeot exemplify this, but one of Europe's and the world's most popular vans, the Ford Transit, could not be left out of this transition.

And so it is that the well-known Ford van is finally exhibited in its all-electric form, dubbed the Ford E Transit Custom. A model that after an initial peek with photographs featured last May with a completely new look to suit its new electric nature is now exhibited with all its technical information.

General characteristics of the Ford E Transit Custom

Ford completely embraces the present revolution of freight transport and distribution with this new electric Transit, which appears to be more inclined than other segments to move to 100% electric mobility due to the cost advantages that this involves for its day-to-day life. The most noticeable feature is its redesigned front, which has a highly modern appearance with two slim headlights connected by a horizontal LED line running over the top of the grille. A grill with an unusual octagonal layout. The front is finished with a sculpted bumper and the charging port entry under the left headlight.

A new face that gives it a completely new look and is tailored to its new status as an electric vehicle, while the rest of the bodywork retains more traditional forms that have been slightly updated with muscular but smooth shapes, side-opening doors, and in the rear some new pilots with a much more technological aspect. The new E-Transit Custom will be available with double and single cabs, two wheelbases, and two different heights, and will be able to offer between 5.9 and 9.0 cubic meters of space and a length of area load of up to 3.45 meters, depending on the variant chosen.

Your driving position will also be easily upgraded with a huge 13-inch central screen for the multimedia system, but the star of the show will be a very special steering wheel that can be elevated to become a type of tiny table. This, among other aspects, demonstrates the versatility and adaptability of the new Transit Custom.

Technical specifications of the Ford E Transit Custom

As previously said, this vehicle is part of the company's new electrification strategy, which also includes the Ford F-150 Lightning and in which Ford aims to invest more than $11.5 billion through 2022.

This first electric Transit Custom is equipped with two electric engines, one with 100 kW (136 hp) and the other with 160 kW (217 hp), both with 400 Nm of maximum torque and a 400-volt battery pack. and 74 kWh borrowed from the F-150 Lightning. As a result, this electric van has an electric autonomy of 380 km, which can be recovered in 41 minutes from 15 to 80% with a fast charge of 125 kW, while an 11 kW charger is supplied as standard, allowing you to charge the battery in just under 8 hours on AC. It also has ProPower Onboard technology, which, like the F-150 Lightning, allows it to function as a portable generator, powering lights and other machinery wherever it travels.

"These electric vehicles will be true work vehicles , extremely capable with unique digital services and wireless capabilities to improve productivity and uptime for our major commercial customers ," Ford Motor Company CEO Jim Farley stated. "We believe the market for all-electric pick-ups and commercial vans (the two largest business segments) will be huge and we are going to seize this opportunity . "
