GM has been slowly ramping up production of the Hummer electric pickup since earlier this year. By the end of June this year, the company had delivered fewer than 400 Hummer electric pickups. Deliveries of the Hummer electric SUV are expected to begin in early 2023.

Duncan Aldred, GM's global head, said the Hummer electric SUV should be produced faster than the electric pickup, which is the first consumer-grade vehicle to use GM's next-generation Ultium battery and vehicle platform. car.

GM is following in the footsteps of Ford in making this decision. Ford previously closed preorders for the F-150 electric pickup as orders had reached about 200,000 units. Ford also closed reservations for the Mustang electric SUV, but has since reopened it to consumers.
