Google has been making the Gmail app a universal place for users for several months, as the Google Meet integration has already been rolled out and the chat feature is now available as well.
And Gmail users will no longer have to use Hangouts - an app that will soon be phased out - to chat with their contacts.
Google has launched a chat integration - only on iOS for now - which makes it really easy to call your contacts, and if you're wondering how to start chatting with your Gmail contacts on an iPhone, follow these steps:
To get the option to chat on iOS, just click on the side menu.
Scroll down to Settings and tap on your account name.
Here you will see the chat option (early access), turn on the toggle button.
The application will ask you to restart the application and allow it.
Now, you will see the chat option in the bottom bar, next to Meet and Gmail.
If you don't see the chat (early access) option in the app, you will have to go to the desktop version of Gmail, here you will have to select the settings, go to the chat option, and choose the Google Chat option.
As we said, the feature is only available on iPhones so far, it is not clear when the feature will arrive on Android phones, but we expect it to happen sooner or later.
