How to prevent third-party applications from accessing your Google account?

While our devices cannot be 100% resistant to cyber attacks, there are some necessary precautions that we can take to protect our online presence from the eyes of hackers, as this can be done by reducing access to third-party applications connected to Google accounts Of our own.


A large number of people on the Internet have a Google account that they use for online shopping, games, music, and more, but the less associated your Google account with third-party applications, the greater your chances of reducing hackers exploiting third-party applications on the Google platform.


You can check that third-party app have access to your account and remove them in three ways:


Use your Android smartphone


  • If you want to use your Android smartphone, turn on mobile data or connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network, go to Settings on your phone and search for Google Account.

  • You will see that some options are displayed within the Google account after the search is completed, among them is the Security option, click on Security now.

  • Now, the Google account that you have logged into will be displayed on the Android device, then select the Google account from which you want to remove third-party application access.

  • Go to Security, you will see an option called Manage access to third-party applications" under Third-party applications that can access the account, click on it.

  • Now, you will be able to see all the third-party applications that have access to your Google account.

You can go to each of them separately and select 'Remove access', as it is up to you to decide who you want to remove, and it may be the case that you may not have granted your Google account access to any third-party application.


Use your Android smartphone


This is the easiest method:

  • Connect to the Internet from your Android smartphone, then open the Google app (not Google Chrome) which should be part of the Google group.

  • Click on the Google Account icon in the upper right corner of the screen.

  • Click on Manage your Google Account.

  • Scroll sideways through the subheadings and go to Security.

  • Now the steps are the same as step # 3 of the previous method.

Using a laptop


If you are using a Windows personal laptop or any other laptop or tablet, you can also easily remove third-party application access from your Google account.

  • Log in to your Google account with a trusted web browser and it is recommended to update Google Chrome to the latest version.

  • Open a new tab in the Chrome browser.

  • Click on your account icon in the upper right corner.

  • Click Manage your Google account.

  • Click the Security tab. It's on the left side of the screen.

  • Follow from step # 3 onwards from Method 1.
