L0phtCrack is now open source

L0phtCrack is a password checking and recovery application that has been around since 1997. The program for Windows has a checkered history because it passed through several hands, including Symantec, but the makers bought the tool back. In 2020 L0phtCrack was sold again, but came back to the current owners a year later due to financial issues. Even then it was stated that they were looking into making the program available as open source. Not an easy undertaking as commercial libraries were also used. This seems to have been got under control, because from now on the curious can let off steam with the software, the L0phtCrack version 7.2.0 is open source, although different Licenses are used.
