McLaren 765LT Spider: 765 hp to take your hat off

It has been almost a year and a half since the McLaren 765LT saw the light in digital format after the cancellation of the 2020 Geneva Motor Show, the first of many that followed because of Covid-19. However, the launch planning of the house of Woking continues its course - fortunately - so that its convertible version has not been long in coming. Yes, I mean the McLaren 765LT Spider or what is the same, the last scion of McLaren Super Series that you will be able to drive in the open and in a placid way very soon. Well, as long as you are able to tame its 765 horsepower. Let's see the rest of its features.

McLaren 765LT Spider Features

Arranged on the same chassis and equipped with the same engine block as the McLaren 720S Spider, the 765LT is the result of intense work by the engineers of the MSO division –McLaren Special Operations– to offer a variant that is more exclusive, but above all more radical, of a model that needs no introduction.

The great protagonist of this Spider variant is the retractable rigid roof that it equips, made in a single piece and capable of opening or closing in just 11 seconds and underway, as long as we do not exceed 50 km / h. Undoubtedly, this speed is one of the qualities that most distinguishes this roof and the other is its lightness, because despite the electro-hydraulic system it includes, it does not add more than 49 kilos to the set, making this McLaren 765LT Spider a real shot. sporty, without special reinforcements for its frame that - we remember - is made of carbon fiber.

This same material is present in the most prominent areas of the specific aerodynamic kit included in this version: front splitter, rear air diffuser, both front, and rear deflectors, and of course, a specific spoiler that improves downforce when cornering by up to 25%, compared to 720S.

McLaren 765LT Spider Performance

The end result is a convertible two-seater of 1,388 kilos in running order, 80 kilos lighter than the aforementioned 720S Spider and that is equipped with mechanics with 45 more horses. Thus, the weight/power ratio of this model comes out clearly strengthened and logically, also its benefits. The McLaren 765LT Spider accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.8 seconds, from 0 to 200 km / h in 7.2. It reaches 330 kilometers/hour of top speed and a good reference too is that it is capable of covering a quarter of a mile - a usual distance in acceleration tests - in just 10 seconds.

Other technical elements to highlight in this convertible Longtail are the dimensions that have been modified in its chassis, as is usual in this family of supercars. In this case, we are talking about an extra 6 millimeters for the video width, as well as specific large Pirelli Trofeo R tires, a carbo-ceramic brake system, and specific electronics, with the so-called Proactive Chassis Control II adaptive chassis, included, to improve track performance.

McLaren 765LT Spider range and prices

Available only as a special edition, this model will have a certain number of units, although McLaren has not yet communicated how many will be. What we do know is that there are two optional packages, one called Black Pack that includes mirror housings, air intakes, diffusers, bumpers, and some other elements made in gloss black, and another called Clubsport Pack aimed at customers who will use the car especially on the track, as it includes racing seats with carbon fiber structure, brakes similar to those of the McLaren Senna and a precise telemetry system that works with three cameras.

Its price is also official for some markets such as the British: 310,500 pounds sterling or the United States: 380,000 dollars; so that in Spain this car will exceed 400,000 euros.
