Microsoft releases first Windows 11 clean install image

Microsoft has been testing Windows 11 for a couple of months now and today released the first official disc images (ISO files), allowing for a clean install from scratch.

The disc image includes Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22000.132 released last week. ISO files are available to Windows Insiders Test Program members on the Downloads page.

With disk images, not only a clean installation is possible, but also a direct launch of Windows 11 in a virtual machine. Previously, the only official way to run Windows 11 in a virtual machine was to install Windows 10 and then upgrade to Windows 11 preview through the Windows Insiders program.

Windows 11 on disk image is not fully functional yet, but it is almost ready. The main thing that Microsoft has not yet activated in the test Windows 11 is support for Android applications and the Amazon Appstore. These innovations should appear in the coming months.

However, approximately in the same period - the coming months, the release of Windows 11 itself should take place. The release is expected for the Christmas season.
