Microsoft Win11 preview update stack package 1022.705.1011.0 released

Microsoft released a new Windows 11 update stack package, continuing to test this new feature to provide quality improvements beyond the main Windows feature update. With the update stack package, Microsoft also wants to minimize installation issues caused by certain updates.

Microsoft has started testing the update stack with Windows 11 Build 22478 or newer and will begin rolling out the feature to all users later this year. Microsoft has now released "Update Stack Package 1022.705.1011.0".

"The update stack package will help ensure your PC has the best possible chance of successfully installing new updates and provides the best and least disruptive experience," Microsoft said in a blog post earlier this year.

Today's update stack package 1022.705.1011.0 is rolling out to users in the Dev channel only. If all goes according to plan, the update stack package will appear in the production channel ahead of the fall release of Windows 11 version 22H2 (Sun Valley 2).

It's unclear exactly how the update stack will improve the Windows Update experience, but Microsoft previously explained that these software update packages will be deployed to improve stability when monthly or feature updates are imminent.

In other words, update stack packages are smaller updates that will be rolled out before cumulative updates to reduce issues reported post-release or during the update installation. For example, if the user installs the stack package before the main cumulative update, it is expected to bring fewer installation bugs.

Currently, Microsoft is testing this feature in Windows 11 preview builds and is limited to the Dev channel, offering only a small set of unknown improvements. If it proves successful, this will likely start rolling out to devices running Windows 11 version 21H2 (the original).
