Sources say Skoda has been rigorously testing a new low-cost sedan that will initially appear in India for almost a year. The car will be called Skoda Slavia and will not replace the Rapid sedan.
Based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, the Skoda Slavia sedan will be about 4480 mm long, making it significantly longer than the current generation Rapid (4413 mm). It is also expected to have the longest wheelbase (2651mm) in the segment at launch.
The front-wheel-drive Skoda Slavia will be powered by two TSI turbo petrol engines. 1.0-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with 115 hp. (from the EA211 family) will work in conjunction with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission with a torque converter. There will also be a 1.5-liter four-cylinder with 150 hp. with a torque of 250 Nm, which will come with a fast automatic dual-clutch transmission.
It is worth noting that the Skoda company was founded under the name Laurin & Klement in 1895 and was also involved in bicycles and motorcycles. In 1925 the company was renamed, Skoda. The company has been producing Slavia bicycles since its inception.
