Sony has already sold over 4.5 million PlayStations 5

The Japanese company invites whirl-ni-la- financial results for the third quarter of fiscal year 2020 (corresponding to the last calendar quarter). It was the most successful quarter in history for the gaming division. It lost 883 billion yen ($ 8.4 billion) and ended with an operating profit of 80 billion yen ($ 760 million).

Of those 883 billion, 239 are for hardware sales, 484 for software, 96 for subscriptions (PS Now and PS +), and 64 for additional revenue. And 484 billion of software is divided into 51 billion from the sale of physical copies, 176 billion from digital and 257 are responsible for microtransactions in games.

But now for the most anticipated number. Sony sold 4.5 million PS5 by the end of December. This is a more successful start than the PS4 (4.2 million), but the new generation suddenly started practically everywhere in the world (PS4 went to Japan with a delay). However, the higher number was logically hindered by the fact that Sony did not manage to produce and has not processed all pre-orders to date.

In the past quarter, the company also sold 1.4 million PS4. Total sales since 2013 are 115.1 million and the console is close to third place in the historical ranking. So far, it belongs to the Game Boyi with 118.7 million units sold.

Sony also sold a record number of games during the Christmas quarter, a total of 103.7 million, of which 18.4 million were for internal studio titles. The numbers also show that 53% of games are sold digitally through the Store, the rest are physical Blu-rays. The number of PlayStation Plus subscribers has grown to 47.4 million and there are already 114 million active players on the PSN network.
