Cardiologist Vladimir Glagolev has described the types of pain and symptoms that patients may experience during a myocardial infarction. According to the specialist, this heart attack is not always accompanied by pain and in 30% of cases, it may not give any sensation in the chest.
Cases are known in which patients with a heart attack complained of pain in the arm, neck, teeth, abdomen, ear, or lower back, Glagólev said in an interview with the portal Doctor Piter.
He added that chest pain is not always associated with a possible heart attack, but can be caused by diseases of the spine, esophagus, aorta, pleura, and lungs. That is why he advised in these cases to consult a doctor to determine the exact cause of the discomfort.
If we talk specifically about myocardial infarction, there are a number of distinctive signs that must also be known. In myocardial infarction, chest pain can be accompanied by shortness of breath, cold sweats, sometimes a feeling of fear of death, and even a possible loss of consciousness, he explained.
To reduce the risk of heart attack, the cardiologist recommended adopting a healthy lifestyle, quitting smoking, controlling blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels, and undergoing preventive examinations.
