Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of the Super Mario series, confirmed that the long-awaited Super Mario Bros movie will come to theaters in North America on December 21, 2022. Nintendo and Illumination, the Hollywood studio responsible for animated films like Despicable Me, have been collaborating on the project since 2018, and worldwide dates haven't been confirmed yet, but it's supposed to arrive sometime during the 2022 holiday season.
Nintendo hasn't directly revealed much about the movie, but its story, status, and even its official name remain a mystery. However, the main cast did introduce this new adventure from Mario starring Chris Pratt as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, and Charlie Day as Mario. Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan Michael Key as Todd, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
Other smaller roles include Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamik, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, and Sebastian Maniscalco as Spike. It is said that Charles Martinet, who has voiced Mario since 1992, will appear throughout the film in a cameo.
Miyamoto said, it may take a while for him and Illumination to have enough footage to show to fans. Hopefully, this movie will at least outperform the Super Mario Brothers from the 90s, which is a worldwide flop among video game fans. The new movie might make the list of the best video game movies ever.
