The list of the world's most commonly used passwords in 2022 is announced

The password management tool NordPass has now released the list of the world's most commonly used passwords in 2022, and the results show that users are still using well-known weak passwords.

Statistics show that the most common password worldwide this year was the password, which took hackers less than a second to crack; the same was true for the second and third most common passwords, 123456 respectively, and 123456789.

NordPass compiled the list with the help of independent cybersecurity researchers who analyzed a 3TB database. Among them, nearly 5 million people around the world use "password" as their password. Eighteen of the top 20 most-used passwords were guessed within a second.

The open-source password management company Bitwarden found in the 2022 password management survey that 31% of respondents in the United States had experienced a data breach in the past 18 months. To avoid this problem, NordPass recommends using a complex password of at least 12 characters, containing a variety of upper and lower case letters, symbols, and numbers.

Additionally, users should avoid reusing the same password for multiple accounts, although this practice is common. Bitwarden found that more than 80% of US users reuse passwords on websites.
