WhatsApp makes it easy to send payments quickly and securely on Android

WhatsApp adds a new quick access button for sending payments via WhatsApp Pay. Previously, to send a payment, you had to go to the action page in the chat. This is currently a beta test-only feature, and it will appear in the stable build in a future update.

As reported by WABetaInfo, the new button is currently available to Indian users in the latest beta version of WhatsApp (v. 2.21.17). The function is also under development for the iOS version of the application.

WhatsApp Pay is built on the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) platform and is part of a growing list of UPI-based payment services, including Google Pay, PhonePe from Flipkart, and Pay. It can be used to send and receive money quickly, free, and securely.

When the service was first launched, only 20 million of the 400 million users in India had access to the feature. India has set a 30 percent cap on the total volume of UPI transactions by third-party app providers to prevent big tech companies like Google and Flipkart from dominating the market.
