Detailed FAQ doubts about Starlink

What is Starlink?

Starlink is a satellite internet service provider that provides high-speed, low-latency broadband internet in distant and rural areas throughout the world. Starlink allows for video conversations, online gaming, streaming, and other high-data-rate activities that were previously not possible with satellite internet. Starlink is appropriate for locations where connectivity has been poor or non-existent. People all throughout the world use Starlink to obtain access to education, health care, and even communications assistance during natural catastrophes.

What is Starlink for RVs?

On-demand access to high-speed, low-latency internet at any location where Starlink delivers active service. At any moment, the service can be suspended or resumed. There is no queue at this moment; all purchases will be dispatched quickly after they are placed. Supply is, however, contingent on network and equipment availability. At the moment, Starlink does not support usage in motion.

What is Starlink Maritime?

While at sea, Starlink Maritime provides high-speed, low-latency internet with download speeds of up to 350 Mbps. From commerce ships to oil rigs to luxury yachts, Starlink Maritime allows you to connect from some of the world's most remote waterways, just as you would in the office or at home.

  • Coverage: See the Starlink Maritime Map

  • Hardware: Leverage 2 Flat High-Performance Starlinks

  • Fleet Management: Remotely monitor and manage your Starlink fleet from a single enterprise portal.

  • Pause: Pause and un-pause service at any time

What is the difference between Starlink High Performance & Standard?

Performance beyond Standard includes:

  • Weather resistance has been improved. IP56, or water jet resistance, denotes high performance. The standard is certified IP54, which means it is resistant to water spray.

  • improved performance in hot weather At temperatures over 35°C (95°F), download speeds are generally three times faster.

  • Improved snow performance: Snowmelt potential is 1.7x greater (inches/hour).

  • Satellite visibility has improved. Your Starlink requires a good view of the sky in order to maintain contact with satellites as they pass overhead. The High Performance has 35% more sky visibility, allowing it to connect to more satellites and better assist users with unconventional installations, unavoidable obstacles, or in polar (>59 degrees latitude) and equatorial locations with less visible satellites.

High-Performance Flat Starlink is the same as stated above, except that this variant lacks a built-in motor enabling motorized self-orientation. Starlink Business also offers high throughput connections for offices with up to 20 employees, storefronts, and demanding workloads throughout the world.

How do I upgrade to Starlink Business?

Use the same email address you used for your current Starlink account to place a new Business order at https://www.starlink.com/business. Once you sign in, Starlink systems will identify your email address and allow you to switch between accounts.

What is Starlink's Portability Feature and Policy?

The Portability function allows customers to temporarily relocate their Starlink to new places for an extra monthly cost in order to obtain service anywhere within the same continent where Starlink has active coverage. View the Starlink Availability Map to see active coverage locations. Portable users receive best-effort service and should expect lower service levels than fixed users, especially in regions designated "Waitlist" on the Availability Map.

How to add portability to your Starlink account?

  • If you are a current client, you may enable Portability from your account page, which will take effect immediately.

  • If you purchased Portability before obtaining your Starlink as a new customer, you must first turn it on at the Service Address stated in your account so that your Starlink software may be updated. Starlink will be set for portability after it has been upgraded.

  • If you have numerous Starlinks, you must pick and purchase Portability for each location.

  • You get charged on your next monthly invoice when you enable Portability. The cost of portability is calculated in full monthly increments and cannot be prorated. The Portability function and billing costs will continue until you disable them. When you disable Portability, the recurring fee will be canceled after your next monthly invoice, and Portability will only be active for the duration of the current billing cycle. For example, if you enable Portability on March 12th and your next payment date is April 1st, you will be charged $25 for the whole prior month on April 1st.

What are the limitations of portability in the Starlink account?

Greatest Effort Service: The portability service is given in the best way possible. The stated speeds and continuous use of services are not guaranteed. Starlink gives users at their registered service addresses priority access to network resources. When you relocate your Starlink, this prioritization may result in decreased performance, especially during peak demand or network congestion.

Starlink may only be utilized inside the same continent as the registered Service Address for international travel. If you use Starlink in a foreign nation for more than two months, you must either change your registered service address or purchase an extra Starlink to keep the service.

No Use in Motion: At this moment, Starlink does not support use in motion. Using the Starlink Kit while in motion will void the Kit's limited warranty. While our teams are working hard to make it feasible to utilize Starlink on moving vehicles (such as cars, RVs, and boats), Starlink is not currently safe to use in this manner.

Can I purchase a second dish for Portability?

Yes. Additional Starlinks can be purchased from your account page. You can choose between:

  • Residential Starlink is only possible if capacity is available at your preferred Service Address. You may enable Portability from your account page once you've purchased it.

  • RV Starlink is now accessible in the majority of markets. Users will have deprioritized service and will be allowed to pause/enable service without limits after the first month.

Does Starlink Portability replace the need for changing my service address?

No. Although Starlink Portability allows customers to utilize their Starlink terminal in other places, they will have reduced network priority. To provide the greatest experience, if you are going to be in a different region for a long length of time, Starlink asks you to change your registered service address location (subject to availability). Users who remain in the same area outside of their service address location for a lengthy period of time may see a further decline in performance while attempting to accommodate users at their Service Address.

How does billing work for Portability?

When you allow Portability, you will be charged on your next monthly account. The cost of portability is calculated in full monthly increments and cannot be prorated. The Portability function and billing costs will continue until you disable them.

Remove Portability: If you disable Portability, the recurring fee will be removed after your next monthly invoice, but Portability will stay active for the balance of the current payment cycle. For example, if you enable Portability on March 12th and your next payment date is April 1st, you will be charged $25 for the whole prior month on April 1st.

How do I add Portability to my account?

  • If you are a current client, you may enable Portability from your account page, which will take effect immediately.

  • If you have numerous Starlinks, you must pick and purchase Portability for each location.

What is Starlink's Best Effort service?

Best Effort is a service option available to existing pre-order clients in places where Residential service is presently unavailable. It allows for normal internet use with the knowledge that Best Effort users would be prioritized after Residential customers, resulting in slower speeds.

Best Effort employs the same hardware as Residential and has the same monthly service fee, however unlike Residential, Best Effort users will be able to halt service.

Do I need to sign a contract to use Starlink?

A contract is not required with Starlink. The service is priced monthly, and you can cancel at any moment if you feel it is not a good match for you. When you cancel your subscription, your service will stay operational until the end of the payment month.

Please keep in mind that if you cancel the service, you may not be able to reactivate it right away. Reactivation is depending on the availability and capacity of services in your region.

While waiting to be changed to Residential service, you can unpause at any moment. If you cancel your Best Effort service, you will lose your place in line for Residential service.

Can I change from a Standard (Circular) to a Standard (Rectangular) Starlink?
