How to download your TikTok history?

Unlike other social networks and online tools, TikTok does not have an easy way to check the history of previously viewed videos. One of the available ways requires that we have “liked” the content: in that case, go to the “I” icon (it appears in the lower right-hand sector of the screen) and then touch the heart to access thumbnails of the videos with likes.

What if you didn't "like" a clip? That is, does TikTok allow access to a history of reproductions? Here's how to access that information.

Step by step to view history on TikTok

In the first instance, you should go to "I", look for the three lines in the upper right sector, and then follow this path: "Privacy", "Personalization and data", "Download your data". There you will find the tab "Request data", where you can request the download in a file with TXT format. The last step is to touch “Process request”.

It should be noted that the process is not exactly fast, since it can take up to 24 hours for the requested information to be available for download. When that happens, the button to confirm the action will appear in red: the app will take you to the web version, where you have to log in and download the compressed file. Bear in mind: the document can be downloaded for up to four days.

“Your request could take a few days to process. When the file is available, you will be able to download it for a maximum of four days ”, they explain from TikTok.

When unzipping the file, go to the "Activity" folder wherein the "Video exploration" section of the list of clips visited appears, with the URLs and dates of entry. That said, it should be noted that this is not a traditional history, but a kind of activity log in the application.

Available on iOS and Android, TikTok is a social network focused on short videos. The tool was criticized on numerous occasions for its possible close ties with the Chinese government (in some markets they accuse the company that runs the tool, ByteDance, of handing over user information to the authorities). Despite the indications, during 2020 it was the most downloaded app worldwide, overcoming the restrictions and threats of blockades in key countries such as India and the United States.
