If you've ever thought about becoming a YouTuber, here we tell you everything you need to know to start monetizing your YouTube videos
YouTube has become in recent years a very lucrative platform for its users. According to data from Statista, a website specialized in statistics, YouTube is the fourth preferred social network among Mexicans, only below giants such as Facebook and Instagram. Which makes the platform a potential source of income given the number of people who consume it. Here we tell you everything you need to know to monetize your videos.
How to make money on YouTube?
The first step in getting started monetizing your videos is submitting an application to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). This program is designed to provide content creators with all the necessary tools to earn income from their videos. However, for this, they must meet certain requirements:
Candidates for the program must have more than 1,000 subscribers on their channel.
Have more than 4,000 valid public hours of reproduction in the last 12 months.
Have an AdSense account linked to the channel
Live in a country where the YPP is available.
And comply with platform monetization policies.
The latter is nothing more than a set of rules of the type of content allowed on YouTube, copyright conditions, and other formalities.
To verify if your YouTube channel meets these requirements, simply go to the YouTube Studio page, enter the details of the account associated with your channel and go to the " Monetization " button. This is found in the options menu on the left side of the screen. There you will find an indicator that measures how close you are to meeting the necessary requirements to monetize your videos.
Once you apply for the program, YouTube will be in charge of checking that the content of your channel complies with its content standards. If everything goes well, the platform will approve your request and now you can make use of all its tools to start generating income with your videos. There are six ways you can start making money.
Ways to monetize videos on YouTube
The first is through advertising. The revenue for this item is generated when people watch ads that appear in the video. This ad revenue is shared between YouTube and the content creator.
The second way is through a membership system where subscribers have the possibility of making a monthly payment to the creator in exchange for benefits such as badges, personalized emojis, and exclusive content.
Another tool that enables YouTube is Super Chat and Super Stickers. These work when the creator makes live broadcasts and allows their subscribers to highlight messages in the community chat in exchange for a sum of money.
There is also the library of promotional items, a mini virtual store on the platform where users can buy items related to the YouTube channel.
The last two forms of monetization are YouTube BrandConnect and YouTube Premium user revenue. The first works when the creator collaborates in advertising campaigns from the Google portfolio of brands. The second makes the content creator take a percentage of the subscription of Premium users when they watch their content.
In the event that YouTube does not accept your request to enter their partner program, don't worry, you can try again 30 days after your first request. This way you will have time to make sure you meet all the requirements and review your content type.
