The Sant'Agata Bolognese brand is experiencing one of the most turbulent moments in its history and after the success of the Lamborghini Urus it will turn its efforts into a model almost as ambitious as this one: a coupé saloon that wants to position itself as the most radical of the moment and that of course, it will have electrified mechanics.

Recall that back in 2008, the Italian firm presented a prototype of these characteristics called Lamborghini Estoque, a name that could well maintain the final model, especially if we consider that this was what happened with the Urus, presented four years later. and with which the company now wants to double its sales volume at this time.

A Lamborghini with four seats

As we read today in the British publication Autocar, this project is now more alive than ever, when the brand thinks of offering a range of models that can be used on a day-to-day basis, combining its pure-breed sports cars. This was confirmed by Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Lamborghini. "Times are changing. New generations are coming in. We have to divide the brand into two types of cars: for supercars like the Huracán and Aventador, we want to keep internal combustion engines alive for as long as possible, and on the side of the daily driver, with the Urus and the new fourth model, we have to do an outstanding job, as we have done with the Urus, which at first glance is not a Lamborghini for those who are used to looking at the Huracán and Aventador. But we don't always focus on supercars. We had GT cars, 2 + 2 cars like the Espada and we had the LM002. So, as a company, we also did a lot of different things. "

From the words of Winkelmann it is also deduced that Lamborghini will take advantage of the platform of some recent model of the Volkswagen group although modified with some carbon fiber components to offer greater rigidity and lightness; to carry out a model with four seats, which evokes the Espada as in its time the Urus had the LM002 as a great reference. “We work together on platforms but we are trying to see what is specific to Lamborghini. We are part of the group, so we are also part of the development of the platform and, on the other hand, we have to choose the one that best fits in terms of cost and quality ”, continued the president.

Inspired by the Espada, but electrified

"A brand like Lamborghini must have solid roots and must be based on the history of the brand," said Winkelmann, so that it is a new Estoque, Asterion, or Espada - directly -, what is clear is that Lamborghini has recovered one of its more ambitious projects and it has done so more than a decade after advancing a model of this type in the form of a concept car.

Undoubtedly, the type of electrified mechanics that this model can incorporate will be key to knowing if the base it takes is the same as the Porsche Panamera or Bentley Continental or if it will directly inherit that of the Audi e-Tron GT and Porsche Taycan to be a zero-emission vehicle.
