Microsoft has announced that its accounts have completely ceased to need such "atavism" as a password. As Microsoft has been proving for several years now, passwordless authentication is faster, easier, and more secure. Starting today, Microsoft will allow users to sign in to Microsoft accounts using the Microsoft Authenticator app, Windows Hello, security key, or SMS and email verification code instead of a password. When switching to a new method, the old password is deleted.
In March, Microsoft began rolling out password-less authentication for commercial users. Vasu Jakkal, Microsoft's corporate vice president of security, said more than 200 million commercial customers are already using the no-password option. Now the next step has been taken.
To switch to the new authentication method and opt-out of the password, you need to complete the following steps:
Go to the advanced security settings for your Microsoft account
Select "Account without-password"
Follow the instructions on the screen.
