SpaceX is building its first floating space platforms

SpaceX has announced that it is already working on building its first floating space platform and that it is planned that the floating platform will start hosting launches early next year. 2022.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk purchased one of the converted oil rigs earlier this year in order to convert it into floating launch and landing sites for its upcoming reusable Starship rocket.

SpaceX bought two rigs early this year to create Deimos and Phobos, two floating spaceports named after the Mars moons, that will serve as staging ground abroad for spacecraft launch activities.

Musk and his company previously shared their vision for a future in which spaceports like Deimos are positioned at major hubs around the world, making it possible to operate a global network of point-to-point hypersonic travel using StarshipPub to transport people from destinations as far away as Beijing to New York in about 30 minutes.
