TikTok is automatically removing videos showing nudity, sexual activity, violence, and other content

TikTok is implementing a new system that will allow the company to remove videos that violate its policies automatically. Also, the short video platform is adding notifications to users when a banned video is removed.

Since last year, the platform has been testing and adjusting automated systems that find and remove prohibited content. Now, TikTok will apply this new system in the United States and Canada in the coming weeks, and very soon worldwide.

TikTok algorithms will be on the lookout for posts that violate policies related to child safety, violence, graphic content, nudity, illegal activity, and sex.

Automated system on TikTok

If the system detects a violation, the video will be removed immediately, but the user can appeal, even for manual review. The problem that TikTok faces is that automated systems are not perfect and some users could be affected.

The company says that only one in 20 of the videos the system removed were false positives. TikTok reports that it will improve accuracy levels, noting that requests to appeal the removal of a video have remained constant.
