WhatsApp confirms that 4 devices can be linked to one account

WhatsApp has confirmed that its support for multiple devices is entering the public beta phase in the coming months. This command allows users to access accounts from up to four linked devices. The new Show Once and Invisibility Mode features have also been officially announced.

Currently, you can only use your account on one device (your phone with a registered number). There is a WhatsApp Web version. But your phone must be connected to the internet for it to work. Given that, the upcoming multi-device functionality is working to get rid of that.

The news came in an interview between WABetaInfo and Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and WhatsApp President Will Cathcart. Cathcart declined to confirm reports that WhatsApp has an iPad app in development. But, he said, multi-device support makes WhatsApp on iPad possible.

New WhatsApp Features

In addition to supporting multiple devices, Zuckerberg also confirmed that WhatsApp is adding a new View Once feature, which allows users to send content that disappears after watching it. The service is also extending the hidden messages feature, which currently allows messages to be deleted after a specified period of time.

In the future, the new Invisibility Mode will allow you to turn on the invisibility of messages across all chat threads. The CEO of Facebook emphasized that the multi-device feature would not harm the end-to-end encryption that WhatsApp provides for messages sent between individuals.

Zuckerberg said, encryption remains end-to-end. It was a huge technical challenge to have all of your messages and content synced properly across devices even when your phone battery is dead. But we have resolved this issue and are looking forward to publishing it soon.

WhatsApp has not confirmed when the show once and invisibility mode features are expected to be launched. But Cathcart said support for multiple devices is entering a public beta in the next month or two.

Besides multi-device support, WABetaInfo also reported that WhatsApp is developing a new encrypted and password-protected backup feature, which can allow users to transfer their chat logs between iOS and Android devices.

WABetaInfo previously discovered several features before its official release, including adding contacts via QR codes and the hidden messages feature in WhatsApp.
