Alipay's Vigilance Against Illegal Leasing: Over 4,300 Mini Programs Processed

In an ongoing effort to uphold industry standards and combat illegal activities, Alipay, the leading digital payment platform, has recently unveiled its "Leasing Industry Governance Results." The data reveals a significant crackdown on illicit leasing practices, with more than 4,300 illegal leasing mini programs processed over the past year. This move underscores Alipay's commitment to maintaining integrity within its platform and ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its users.

Alipay clarifies its role as an open platform that provides technical services to merchants rather than directly engaging in their operations. Third-party rental merchants operate independently through mini-programs, facilitating leasing services and transactions directly with users. However, Alipay emphasizes its zero-tolerance policy towards illegal leasing activities and vows to take swift action upon detection.

To facilitate user involvement in maintaining platform integrity, Alipay offers a "Feedback and Complaints" portal within mini programs. This enables users to report any violations or suspicious activities observed while engaging with merchants. Such user-driven reporting mechanisms enhance transparency and empower individuals to contribute to a safer digital ecosystem.

Alipay's proactive stance against illegal leasing is further evidenced by its implementation of stringent regulatory standards. In July 2023, the platform introduced the "Alipay Rental Industry Management Standards," setting clear guidelines for merchants. Notably, these standards restrict the total annual rent and resale amount of leased products to no more than 130% of the official website price. Moreover, Alipay established a joint governance group for the leasing industry in June of the same year, signaling a comprehensive approach to addressing industry challenges.

Upon identifying violations, Alipay enforces corrective actions swiftly and decisively. Merchants found in breach of regulations are promptly required to rectify their practices. Depending on the severity of the violation, punitive measures such as warnings, global search blocking, and other deterrents may be imposed on mini programs. These measures aim to deter future misconduct and uphold the platform's standards of conduct.
