Amazon plans to raise pay for some delivery drivers amid the labor crunch

As the labor market continues to be tight, people familiar with the matter said that because it is preparing for the holiday season, the e-commerce giant Amazon plans to increase the pay of some delivery partners.


Amazon will fund a pay rise for North American drivers planned by Delivery Service Partners as soon as this week, people familiar with the matter said.


At a meeting with leaders of some of its delivery partners in Las Vegas on Tuesday, Amazon said the company would invest more than $300 million in salary increases. Amazon also announced tuition support benefits and a 401(k) investment plan for drivers, people familiar with the matter said.


According to the financial report, Amazon’s net sales in the second quarter reached 121.234 billion US dollars (about 838.939 billion yuan), a year-on-year increase of 7%; the net loss reached 2.028 billion US dollars (about 14.034 billion yuan), and the net profit in the same period last year was 7.778 billion US dollars ( about 53.824 billion yuan).
