Google Registry Launches Eight New Top-Level Domains for Dads, Grads, and Techies

Google Registry has recently launched eight new top-level domains (TLDs) to cater to the needs of dads, grads, and techies. These new extensions are .dad, .phd, .prof, .esq, .foo, .zip, .mov, and .nexus. These TLDs aim to provide a platform for people to showcase their skills, interests, and passions through a unique domain name. In this article, we will discuss each TLD and its potential usage, along with some examples of early adopters.

Dads: Celebrating Fatherhood with .dad

Father’s Day is just around the corner, and what better way to celebrate fatherhood than by creating a website with a .dad extension. This TLD caters to all types of dads, whether you're a fit.dad, a gay.dad, or a dude.dad. With .dad, you can share jokes, games, advice, and anything related to fatherhood. Here are some interesting .dad websites:

  • Classic.dad: Play an 8-bit game where your goal is to mow the lawn successfully while dodging pets, obstacles, and preventing weeds from spreading.

  • Dear.dad: A media platform dedicated to telling stories of black fathers.

  • Daily.dad: A new book from Ryan Holiday that provides 366 accessible meditations on parenthood, a manageable slice for each day.

Grads: Showcasing Credentials with .phd, .prof, and .esq

May is graduation season, and to celebrate graduates and the professors who taught them, Google Registry has launched three new TLDs: .phd, .prof, and .esq. These TLDs cater to those who want to showcase their credentials, expertise, and knowledge in their respective fields. Here are some early adopters of these TLDs:

  • Erika.esq: Erika Kullberg is an attorney and money expert who is passionate about better positioning people for success.

  • Casey.prof: Professor Casey Fiesler is a technology ethics educator and science communicator.

  • Rafael.phd: Rafael Misoczki is an expert in post-quantum cryptography, fully homomorphic encryption, privacy-enhancing technologies, and the application of these constructions.

Techies: Exploring New Frontiers with .foo, .zip, .mov, and .nexus

May is also the month of Google I/O, the annual developer conference, and Google Registry has launched four TLDs to cater to the needs of techies. These TLDs provide a platform for developers, coders, and technology enthusiasts to showcase their work, learn new skills, and build communities. Here are some early adopters of these TLDs:

  • gamers.nexus: A platform to review computer hardware and plan your next gaming PC.

  • helloworld.foo: Learn how to code "hello world" in every programming language.

  • url.zip: Create short, powerful, and trackable links with url.zip.

  • david.mov: Watch videos by David Imel in this liminal space.

Early Access Program and Public Availability

These eight new TLDs are available through Google Registry's Early Access Program, where users can register their desired domain names for an additional one-time fee that decreases according to a daily schedule through the end of May 10. After that, these domains will be publicly available at a base annual price through a registrar of choice.
