After several warm-ups, Honda finally fully announced the design of its first pure electric SUV. Coming to North America in 2024, the Honda Prologue combines the work of the Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles with the GM Ultium platform.

Honda says the Prologue will further expand its light truck lineup, as it will sit atop the CR-V and sit alongside the Passport for generous passenger and cargo space.

The electric SUV has a wheelbase of 121.8 inches (3093 mm), the same as the Cadillac Lyriq and Chevrolet Blazer EV, and is 8 inches (203 mm) longer and 5 inches (127 mm) wider than the all-new 2023 Honda CR-V. The exact dimensions of the Honda Prologue are 4876 x 1988 x 1643 mm. By comparison, the Cadillac Lyriq is slightly longer at 4996mm, while the Blazer EV is around 4927mm. The cabin is said to offer ample space for passengers and cargo, but Honda did not provide details.

Lightly tinted with snow above the mountains, Prologue will bring a unique "North Shore Pearl" color inspired by the natural beauty and color of California's Lake Tahoe neighborhood. Honda says the new car's visuals can look very clean with the charcoal and light gray interior.

Inside, the electric SUV features a standard fully digital 11-inch instrument cluster and large 11.3-inch screen, with physical buttons for climate control and seat heating below the touchscreen, a multi-function steering wheel, and a wireless charging pad for mobile phones, two cup holders, and a storage compartment with a lid under the center. In addition, it features 21-inch wheels and decorative elements of a panoramic roof.

Masaki Sumimoto, Head of Design for Colors, Materials, and Finishes, said, "Our goal was to create a clean and harmonious image based on the image of a rugged SUV, by coordinating colors and materials to express the new ruggedness that our customers are familiar with Design style and style that is unique to Honda."

Honda didn't mention the powertrain, but it did say that the Prologue will support all-wheel drive and is expected to feature a dual-motor setup similar to the Chevrolet Blazer EV, though probably not the top-of-the-line SS's 557-horsepower powertrain. Referring to the Blazer EV, the base model should be a single-motor FWD with a range of about 250 miles (402 kilometers).

Gary Robinson, Honda's vice president of product planning, said the Prologue will rival the Passport in size and pricing. (The Passport will start at about $38,000 in 2022, equivalent to 269,000 yuan)
