This method is for the Beta channel only and does not represent any changes or plans for the final feature rollout.

The narrator for Windows 11 supports new braille displays and new braille input/output, Microsoft announced. Some of the new braille displays we support include APH Chameleon, APH Mantis Q40, NLS e-readers, and more. Please refer to the official Microsoft documentation for more information.

Prerequisites:

The narrator's currently enabled braille support must be removed if installed by following the steps below:

  • Open the settings.

  • Go to Apps > Optional Features > Installed Features.

  • Search Accessibility - Braille support.

  • Expand Accessibility - Braille Support and uninstall the feature.

The new Narrator braille support feature can then be installed by following these steps:

  • Go to Settings > Accessibility > Narrator > Braille.

  • Select the More button.

  • Select the Download and Install Braille button to download Braille from this new window.

  • After installing Braille, restart your computer and go back to Settings > Accessibility > Narrator > Braille.

  • Other than that, the new version only has some bug fixes.

Fixes in Build 22623.1020

Common content:

  • The spelling dictionary has been swapped for a language-neutral thesaurus and syncs across all devices using the same Windows account (Microsoft account and AAD) via Settings > Accounts > Windows Backup > "Remember my preferences" > "Language preference" to toggle this feature.

Taskbar and system tray:

  • Fixed systray-related explorer.exe crashes that were common in previous beta channels. This issue is also believed to be the cause of explorer.exe crashing when entering safe mode.

  • Fixed an issue that caused some third-party application icons to become unresponsive in the system tray after the latest system tray changes.

  • The Windows Update icon in the system tray no longer looks pixelated after switching between light and dark modes.

Windowing:

  • The list of desktops in Task View no longer appears in the middle of Task View if you have two monitors.

Task manager:

  • Move the open navigation pane button below the title bar when the task manager is wide enough to expand it inline. This fixes an issue where users were unable to drag the task manager from the area in the title bar above the navigator to expand it.

  • Delete The delete key is now available in the search box.

Fixes for Build 22621.1020 and Build 22623.1020

  • Combine Windows Spotlight with themes on the Personalization page to make it easier for users to find and turn on Windows Spotlight features.

  • Now supports displaying the full storage capacity of all Microsoft OneDrive subscriptions. You can see your total storage space on the Account page in Settings.

  • A reminder is provided for Microsoft OneDrive subscribers on the System page of the Settings app. Hopefully, there will be a reminder when the storage is almost full. You can also purchase additional storage if needed.

  • Added organization message function. Thanks to this, third-party companies providing content to their employees no longer need to use the Windows default behavior.

  • Fixed an issue affecting protocol activation for the Settings app. This issue prevents users from opening the Account sub-page.

  • Fixed an issue affecting some applications. This behavior occurs when a user uses a keyboard shortcut to change the input mode of a Japanese Input Method Editor (IME).

  • Fixed an issue affecting CNOs or Virtual Computer Objects (VCOs) that would cause password resets to fail. The error message shows "An error occurred while resetting the AD password... // 0x80070005".

  • Fixed an issue that could cause some applications to become unresponsive. This problem mainly occurs when opening the "Open File" dialog box.

  • Fixed an issue that sometimes affected File Explorer when opening files. This issue can cause unexplained high CPU usage.

  • Fixed an issue affecting Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. The automatic killing has affected the normal use of real-time killing.

  • Fixed an issue affecting Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) authentication hardening. Microsoft automatically increases the authentication level to RPC_C_AUTHN_LEVEL_PKT_INTEGRITY for all non-anonymous activation requests from DCOM clients. According to reports, this can happen if the authentication level is lower than packet integrity.

  • Fixed an issue affecting microphone streaming to speakers using the Listen To feature. The main symptom is that the microphone does not respond after restarting the device.
