The US House of Representatives on July 13 local time approved an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, which will establish a security system for reporting UFOs. The system will reportedly receive reports of unidentified flying object (UFO)-related incidents while recording related activity from government and federal agencies.

In recent years, Congress has authorized the Pentagon and intelligence agencies to investigate UFOs more aggressively, including unexplained sightings of highly advanced aircraft violating protected military airspace, some appearing to violate known aerodynamics. Following a series of bills, the Pentagon created the Air Object Identification and Management Synchronization Team to collect and analyze more reports.

But at the first public hearing on UFOs in more than 50 years in May, lawmakers expressed disappointment that the Pentagon's efforts were not strong enough. Officials also complained that the national security agency had more information that was not reported and shared with Congress.
