Netizen picture Microsoft Windows 11 "EdgeOS", almost believable

Twitter user FireCube often leaks upcoming Windows features or publishes some interesting content, although many times it is true, today's "EdgeOS" Beta screenshot deceived many people.

FireCube has released a hypothetical screenshot of the Windows 11-based "EdgeOS" beta. This is a deliberate fake, and Microsoft isn't actually building a rival system to Google's Chrome OS.

In a Twitter post, FireCube added some description to it, saying it "leaked Microsoft's plans to rebrand Windows 11 after switching to a new web-based technology-driven shell," with the following image:

The screenshot is of an edited winver window, but the top bar still says "About Windows" instead of "About EdgeOS", and the build numbers aren't even lined up or spaced correctly. Suffice it to say that this is fake.

While this is just a joke, Microsoft's recent actions in relation to the Edge browser's feature set have really made "EdgeOS" very credible. Over the past few months, Microsoft has been adding a ton of extra and even unnecessary features to the Edge browser, making it a mini OS in its own right.

So far, the Microsoft Edge browser has added a full sidebar with the calculator, unit converter, and photo apps, and even links to the entire Office suite and Outlook calendar. And Edge is now a gaming browser, too, with Microsoft calling Edge "the best browser for gamers." Microsoft may also add more of these features in the future.
