NIO Unveils New ES8 Electric Vehicle with Advanced Powertrain and Flexible Battery Options

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has released the declaration information for the new NIO ES8 electric vehicle. The new ES8 will be based on NIO's NT2 second-generation technology platform and will feature the latest family-style design. It will be equipped with the same powertrain as the ET7 and ES7, featuring a four-wheel drive layout with front and rear dual motors and a motor combination with a maximum power of 180 kW front permanent magnet + 300 kW rear induction. The new ES8 will also be available with a 75 kWh or 100 kWh ternary lithium battery pack and the option to replace the battery with a semi-solid battery in the future.

The new ES8 will be officially released on December 24, 2022, on NIO Day. It will feature a "watchtower" sensor consisting of lidar and front dual cameras to support high-level assisted driving, as well as dual cameras on the side fenders to support the Aquila NIO super-sensing system and Adam NIO super-computing platform. The new ES8 will also come equipped with a tow kit, including a hidden electric tow hook, exclusive tow mode, and support for powering tow equipment. It will also have a camping mode and support external discharge functions.


Body size: The new ES8 will be 5099 mm long, 1989 mm wide, and 1750 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3070 mm. Compared to the current ES8, the body length has increased by 77 mm, the width has increased by 27 mm, the wheelbase has increased by 60 mm, and the height has decreased by 6 mm. The new ES8 will only be available with a 6-seater layout, as the 7-seater option has been removed.


The new NIO ES8 is an exciting addition to the electric vehicle market, offering a range of advanced features and a sleek design. Its use of NIO's second-generation technology platform, powerful dual motors, and flexible battery options make it a strong contender in the EV space. The official release on NIO Day in December 2022 will be a major event for the company and the industry as a whole.


The new NIO ES8 will be equipped with the same powertrain as the ET7 and ES7, featuring a four-wheel drive layout with front and rear dual motors and a motor combination with a maximum power of 180 kW front permanent magnet + 300 kW rear induction. The comprehensive power of the system is 480 kW, with a peak torque of 850 N·m. The new ES8 will also be available with a tow kit, including a hidden electric tow hook, exclusive tow mode, and support for powering tow equipment. It will also have a camping mode and support external discharge functions.


Batteries: The NIO ES8 will be equipped with a battery replacement mechanism, allowing it to be fitted with either a 75 kWh or 100 kWh ternary lithium battery pack. It will also have the option to replace the battery with a semi-solid battery in the future. Unlike the previous model, the battery for the new ES8 will be supplied by two different manufacturers, Ningde Times and Zhongxinhang.
