Terraria Developer: Game Sales Are Too Good, New Work Is Hard to Promote

The sandbox game Terraria has been updated countless times, but it has never stopped updating. Recently, the game's developer Andrew Spinks tweeted that the frequent updates have made it difficult for him to create new projects. Spinks said that the team is currently working on improving the existing content before considering new content. He said, "This game is still selling well in its 12th year, but this also makes it difficult to develop a new game."

Terraria was released in 2011 and has sold over 30 million copies worldwide. It is a 2D sandbox game with elements of exploration, crafting, and combat. Players can build their own worlds, fight enemies, and collect resources. The game has been praised for its creativity and replayability.

Spinks' tweet has sparked discussion among fans of Terraria. Some fans have expressed understanding for Spinks' situation, while others have expressed disappointment that a new Terraria game may not be released soon. Spinks has not announced any plans for a new Terraria game, but he has said that he is still working on the game and that he will share more information in the future.

Update

On July 5, 2023, Spinks released a new tweet saying that he has decided to sell the Terraria IP to 2023Games. He said that he made this decision because he believes that 2023Games is the best team to continue the development of Terraria. Spinks also said that he will continue to work on Terraria as a consultant for 2023Games.
