Tik Tok and Tinder are the most downloaded and spending Apps by the consumers in Q3


IOS and Android app usage remain high around the world and more people are working from home and connecting with friends, colleagues, and families online due to the current pandemic. According to the data analytics firm App Annie, monthly time spent on mobile apps grew 25% in Q3 2020 and excess of 180 billion hours each month of July, August, and September. In India, the monthly time spent on mobile apps in the third quarter of 2020 surged 30% in a year while app usage surged 15 percent in the United States and 40% in Indonesia. TikTok maintained the same position as the most downloaded app in the world and in Tinder become the most time spent by the consumers.


Annie's report reveals that consumers downloaded roughly 33 billion apps in the third quarter of 2020. Google Play Store downloads grew by 10% to 25 billion and iOS downloads increased by 20% to nearly 9 billion. India and Brazil accounted for the most number of downloads on the Google Play Store and the United States, China were the two largest markets for app downloads on iOS. App purchases also increase along with the downloads of Apps.


Q3 2020 was the largest quarter yet for mobile app consumer spending with revenue amounting to $28 billion (roughly around Rs. 2.04 lakh crore). Gaming apps and non-gaming apps accounted for 35% on the Apple App Store and 20% on the Google Play Store for most of the purchases of the Apps The report shows that consumer spending was highest across Games, Social, and Entertainment categories on Google Play Store and iOS users spent most on categories such as Games, Entertainment and Photo and Video.


Due to the mass amount of consumer spending, Tinder was ranked up to top the first position in the Q3 for indicating strong demand and use of dating apps and a testament to their resiliency throughout social distancing measures and lockdown policies due to the pandemic. In terms of monthly active users, Facebook dominated and maintained the first position followed by other Facebook-owned apps like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram.
