Toyota finds solution to electric SUV bZ4X wheel shedding problem

Toyota Motor will restart the production of its electric SUV model bZ4X , according to the Nihon Keizai Shimbun . Production of the model was halted in June after a problem with the bolts connecting the wheels was discovered that could cause the wheels to fall off.

At present, Toyota has concluded the investigation and announced that it will make partial changes to the vehicle design to improve safety. The production line at the Motomachi factory in Aichi, Japan is expected to restart in mid-October .

Reports say that the wheels of the Toyota bZ4X will be fixed with wheel hub bolts , replacing the previous bolts. The use of wheel hub bolts has the advantages of reducing the weight of the body, and some Lexus models use wheel hub bolts to fix the wheels.

The bZ4X was jointly developed by two Japanese carmakers, Toyota and Subaru, and is Toyota's first mass-produced electric vehicle. After restarting production, the combined production of bZ4X and Subaru Solterra will be around 1,000 vehicles in October, and around 6,000 to 7,000 vehicles will be produced in November.
