Toyota India Warns of Possible Customer Data Breach at Toyota Kirloskar Motor

Toyota India has warned of a possible customer data breach at Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), a joint venture between Toyota and India's Kirloskar Group. In a statement issued on January 1, 2023, TKM stated that it had been informed by one of its service providers that the personal information of some customers may have been leaked on the internet. The statement did not provide any further details on the scale or extent of the data breach, or how many customers may have been affected.

This news is likely to cause concern for customers of TKM, as well as raise wider questions about the security of personal information held by companies. Data breaches can have serious consequences for individuals, including identity theft and financial fraud. It is therefore essential that companies take steps to protect the personal information of their customers and take appropriate action in the event of a breach.

This is not the first time Toyota has faced issues with customer data breaches. In October 2022, the company officially announced that the personal information of around 296,000 customers using its T-connect service may have been leaked. This included email addresses and customer numbers, and affected customers may have received spam and phishing emails as a result. However, other sensitive information such as names, phone numbers, and credit card information were not affected.

In response to this incident, Toyota Motor apologized to affected customers via email and set up a website form for customers to check if their email addresses were within the scope of the possible leak. The company also established a dedicated call center to answer customer questions about the information leak.

It is unclear at this time what measures Toyota India will take in response to the latest data breach at Toyota Kirloskar Motor. The company has notified the relevant authorities and it is likely that further information will be released in due course. In the meantime, customers of TKM may want to take steps to protect their personal information and monitor their accounts for any unusual activity.
