Toyota Issued an Apology in Responding to Fuel Consumption Display of Dyna Trucks

Toyota has issued an apology and announcement regarding the delay in responding to the fuel consumption display due to the implementation of a new test method for some of its truck models. With the introduction of new heavy-duty vehicle fuel efficiency standards from the fiscal year 2025, all vehicles must display their fuel efficiency values based on the new test method (JH25 mode) starting from April this year.

Target Models Affected

The target car models affected by this delay are the Dyna 2-ton system and the Dyna 1-ton model with GD engine. Toyota intends to take thorough measures to avoid any confusion and misunderstanding among customers in the meantime.

Reasons for the Delay

The delay in responding to the fuel consumption display is due to changes in the development schedule in response to engine certification fraud at Hino Motors, the OEM supplier of the Dyna. Fuel consumption measurement and application work in JH25 mode for the Dyna have been suspended, causing the delay.

Future Measures

Hino intends to proceed with measures to display fuel efficiency in JH25 mode as soon as possible, with an expected completion date of July or August this year. Until then, Toyota will clearly indicate in its catalogs that the current heavy-duty vehicle fuel economy is displayed in an easy-to-understand manner and will strive to avoid misunderstandings among customers.

Reassurance to Customers

Toyota would like to assure customers that this change in fuel consumption display does not involve any changes to the vehicle itself and does not affect its compliance with safety standards, actual fuel efficiency performance, or safety.

Apology

Toyota apologizes for the concern and inconvenience caused to its customers and other stakeholders and is committed to resolving the issue as soon as possible.
