Twitter's head of security and integrity, Yoel Roth, said that after the social media was acquired by billionaire Musk, the company's layoffs caused about 50% of its employees to lose their jobs yesterday.
Yesterday's layoffs impacted approximately 15% of our security review team (and approximately 50% across the company), with our front-line regulators being the least affected," he said in a tweet, adding that more than 80% of the content review volume is not affected, and the core functions can be guaranteed.
In the company's massive layoffs on Friday, several key parts of Twitter were badly affected, according to employees. Among the hardest hit were the teams responsible for product and advertising engineering, as well as the infrastructure teams (internally known as Redbird) and corporate communications teams responsible for running data centers.
Twitter sent an email to employees yesterday saying that it will inform employees of the layoff results at 9:00 am Pacific Time on Friday. Twitter currently has more than 7,000 employees, according to previous estimates, this may lay off about 50%. For employees not affected by the layoffs, the company will notify the results via their office email addresses, and for employees affected by the layoffs, the results will be notified via their personal email addresses, Twitter said.
